ABOUT MONASTRELL

Monastrell: [maw-nahs-TRRELL]
A red, very sweet and productive grape. It produces wines with a deep color and considerable alcoholic content. It is mainly found in Murcia (52%), Alicante, Albacete and Valencia and it is considered a main variety in Spanish DOs such as Alicante, Almansa, Costers del Segre, Jumilla, Penedés, Valencia and Yecla. Until recently it was thought to be Mourvèdre but recent DNA tests show it is not the same grape.
