Wine & Spirits Rating System:

Tastings are conducted individually or in a group setting and performed in accordance with accepted industry practices. Price is not a factor in assigning ratings to wines/ spirits. When possible, wines considered flawed are re-evaluated.

There is no charge for submitting wines. We make every effort to taste all wines submitted for review. For each wine/spirit submitted please send two bottles (One bottle is acceptable for limited production wines and spirits).

Wineries and winery representatives are encouraged to submit labels, which are reproduced and printed along with tasting notes and ratings.

Ratings (Wine & Spirits)

The Vine Times wine & spirits rating system is based upon a 5 points (or glasses) scale instead of the traditional 100 point scales used in other wine & food publications. The five-glass rating system is broken down as follows:

1 Glass - Not Recommended Not recommended. This wine or spirit may be found at your local diner and is of very low quality.

2 Glasses Unremarkable An unremarkable wine, but drinkable. This wine or spirit may be found at a large banquet or event.

3 Glasses Well Recommended Well recommended. This wine or spirit would be served at a dinner party in your own home and is of very good quality.

4 Glasses Excellent Excellent wine. This wine or spirit may be given as a birthday or anniversary gift to friends and family.

5 Glasses - Editor's Choice Editor’s Choice Vine Award. Exceptional quality. A wine or spirit that is truly world-class and is saved for special occasions such as 10-year anniversary, landmark birthdays or any other special occasion.
