White Willow's Latin name is the source of the name for acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) as well as the parent compound from which aspirin was eventually created. The medicinal properties of this tree are to be found in the bark. Salicin is the most well known substance, which is a natural alternative to aspirin, and an effective pain killer. It is less acidic than aspirin and is less irritating to the stomach.
